The Insomniac Writer #4 – May 2023

After taking the month of April off, the monthly newsletter is back!

I’m turning 50…Get off my lawn!

That’s right, folks. I’ve been rocking this mortal coil for half a century now. It’s been equal parts joy, sorrow, victory, failure, laughter, tears, doubt and faith. It’s been packed full of friends, three lovely children, a happy marriage to my best friend, seven book releases, and a lot of triall and error. But I made it. 50 years! It feels like an accomplishment. It feels good. Now…turn that music down!

New poetry from my good friend, Gene Strother.

Gene Strother: Word Warrior

I recently had the privilege of writing the foreword for Word Warrior: Killing Them Softly One Rhyme at a Time, a new book of poetry penned by my dear friend and mentor, Gene Strother.

I’ve known Gene for many years now. In fact, when Heidi and I got married, Gene officiated. With faith, humor, and a keen eye on the world around him, this ornery Texan skillfully gives you a glimpse into his world and affections. And, when you support his work, you’re not only supporting a fellow indie author but blessing one of the finest men I know.

I plan to read a poem or two from Gene’s book and post it to socials. Be sure you’re following me on all the usual platforms so you don’t miss it.

Potential Delays aka The Bane of My Existence

I previously announced the revamped and rewritten versions of my previously released fantasy books, beginning with The Witches of Greyfolk. I had hoped (and worked really hard) to get this new version released BEFORE Imaginarium 2023. Sadly, it’s looking less and less like that will happen.

Why? Well, for starters, I’m a quality control nut. If I can’t get it right by the deadline, it’ll have to wait. Given the number of changes, rewrites, and reorganizations happening across a trilogy of books, it’s all going a tad slower than I hoped. That said, I’m very excited about how it’s all coming together. I may not have The Witches of Greyfolk to sell at the con (which you should totally attend! Click here!) but I’ll have them shortly thereafter. And done well. Not rushed.

This series is the foundation for so much of the work I’ve done since that it deserves all the care and time I can afford it. So, sadly, it’s coming out later than expected. It will still release in 2023, though! Keep watching this newsletter for updates and advance sales!

All That Waits in the Night Book Review

Sandy Lender reviewed my book!

In case you missed it, Sandy Lender, author, booktuber, and one of the sponsors of the Imaginarium convention, recently posted a video review for my horror novel, All That Waits in the Night. Sandy is a familiar face to all who attend Imaginarium and I had the pleasure of meeting her at last year’s event. She swung by my table and bought the book, promising to review it once she made her way through a stack of other books picked up at the con. True to her word, she posted this review recently. Give it a watch when you get a chance.

Last but not least…

I am working on a fresh piece of fiction for my Patreon supporters. A few times a year,  I offer EXCLUSIVE works to those that faithfully support my efforts via Patreon donations. That you’ve already subscribed to my newsletter is huge. I appreciate every one of you. But, if you want access to exclusive content, updates, and occasionally merchandise not available through my webstore, consider joining my Patreon community. You can check it out HERE.

That’s all for May 2023.

Be blessed. Take care. And my the Author of your story plot every good thing for the journey ahead.
